Habits Of Mind

The habits of the mind was a pretty interesting piece of reading. There were many that I lacked and there were many that I use. Out of the 16 the three that I need to work on, they are taking reasonable risks , listening with understanding and empathy and lastly striving for accuracy.
People say risk is worth the reward, but you it is a 50-50 chance of failing and wining. I most of the time academically I don’t take risks because I am so conscious of grade I don’t take many risks. When I am outside of school doing other activities I am willing to take risk because its not that serious of an event but I second guess my willingness to take risk when I’m in school. I can apply taking risk in school because it could probably help me out too take risk in other areas in life.
My listening skills aren’t the best and I really need to learn how to really comprehend what people are telling me the first time. When people talk to me I really hear what there saying but at the same time I’m trying to figure out what will my response be and I don’t think that’s good. According to this chapter of the habits of mind it says we spend 55 percent of our lives listening to other people talk. But inside of school we spend about 90 percent of the time listening to our teachers and our classmates, but when I go to the next level of education which is college the professor will be lecturing us with a lot of information.
Striving for excellence is on my menu but I don’t take advantage of really trying to do this. This may be one of my down falls because I strive for mediocrity and not greatness or excellence. For example when I practice for basketball I just practice for a little while but not really trying to be the best at it, and in school I only really try to do my best really when there’s a project or something major. But that’s going to change because in order to be the best you have to put in the work and I will change my work ethic so I can attend one of the best schools.
Habits of The Mind will enter into my thought process when I am trying to do things because it will help me to become a better student when I have to listen to people talk and when I’m trying to do something to the best of my ability.
